Call for Papers: Business and Human Rights (BHR) – 31.12.2025
Ruch Prawniczy, Ekonomiczny i Socjologiczny [Poznań Journal of Law, Economics and Sociology] is open for submissions concentrating on Business and Human Rights (BHR). We plan to publish the papers in one of the 2026 issues of the journal.
BHR is a new, but dynamically developing field of scholarship and practice exploring various aspects of how global business activity directly or indirectly affects the enjoyment of rights by individuals and whole communities. We hope the papers will shed light on at least some of the pressing problems resulting from governance gaps amidst the recent calls and initiatives for removing regulatory ‘burdens’ for business.
We invite submissions that present legal, economic, and social perspectives on BHR theory and practice, with interdisciplinary and Global South approaches being particularly welcome. The interest topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
- the effectiveness of international and domestic tools to hold corporations accountable for adverse impacts on human rights, the environment and climate change (transparency reporting, due diligence, civil liability regimes, etc.);
- the practicability of existing legal frameworks in regard to access to remedy for the affected individuals, groups and communities;
- the latest (de-)regulatory developments in BHR and related sustainability issues (in Europe and beyond), and notably their prospects for balancing the potentially conflicting interests of business actors and those of other stakeholders;
- sector-specific human rights risks and respective options for more sustainable production and supply chains (i.e. what should a rights-respecting economic activity look like in the context of, e.g., agriculture, apparel, mining for transition minerals, financial services, BigTech, or space exploration?)
- production and consumption models, and policies as drivers of labour exploitation and multiple global crises (e.g. what policy change would be required for a more equitable access to and use of shared resources such as water, atmosphere, etc.?).
Papers should be written in English and be between 40,000 and 60,000 characters long (spaces, footnotes, tables, figures, abstracts and reference list included). Further submission guidelines as well as information concerning the review process can be found HERE - please read them carefully before submitting the paper. The manuscript and all obligatory attachments should be submitted via our ONLINE PLATFORM.
The deadline for full paper submission is December 31, 2025.
